Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County Annual Gala

When Little Sister Aniyah’s mother passed away unexpectedly, she and her family were devastated. Aniyah’s grandmother contacted Big Brothers Big Sisters of Beaver County in the hopes of finding “good people” to surround Aniyah with. When she was matched with Big Sister Terri, Aniyah’s smile slowly but surely came back, and her grandmother was able to “feel comfortable again and relax,” knowing that Terri was there as a positive role model, a shoulder to lean on, and a caring, attentive mentor to guide Aniyah through such a tough time in her young life. In Grandma’s words, “Terri was like an angel sent to us by Anyiah’s mother.” Stories like these illustrate the life-changing impact that our one-to-one mentoring programs have on our Beaver County youth, as consistent, reliable sources of stability in the communities we serve. When matched with a Big, our kids do better in school, make healthier choices, have higher self-esteem, and get along better with their peers and family members. Together, we can continue to meet young people in Beaver County where they are and match them with the caring, encouraging mentors they need so that they can realize their full potential.
