When the 2008 recession impacted the industry, he adapted by returning to hands-on work with a small homebuilder in Sewickley. Shortly thereafter, he was accepted into the carpenters union apprenticeship program, which set the stage for the next chapter of his career.

During his union career, Mr. Sopko spent many years with Mascaro Construction, progressing from apprentice to journeyman, foreman, and eventually superintendent. Alongside his field experience, he remained deeply involved in his local union organization, serving as an alternate delegate, delegate, recording secretary, and now President of Local #432. For the past six years, he has served as a Council Representative, advocating for the membership and supporting contractor partners across the region.

The most important lesson his career and union involvement have taught him is the value of giving back to the community. Beaver County is a place he cares deeply about. He recognizes the essential role the Chamber plays in fostering economic growth, supporting local businesses, and strengthening our communities. Mr. Sopko brings experience, commitment, and a passion for community advancement to the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
